Case Studies
Here are a few real-life scenarios we encountered with our customers and how we got through each one together.
Network Voltage Support with full remote operation
This project represents a milestone for GRS as this temporary generation requirement seamlessly integrates 10 Megawatts of energy to the network. Outside of SAIDI & SAIFI management, this network prioritised keeping power flowing to its community and further embedded the priorities that drive their decision making.
Hybrid Energy offers carbon and fuel cost reductions
Up to 85% reduction in generator run time, 90% reduction in emissions & 50% + fuel cost reductions are three of many reasons this contractor decided to opt for this hybrid energy solution.
These units are optimal cost saving options for isolated areas of remote sites where low energy loads are required over longer periods of time.
Winery achieves seamless harvest seasons
Throughout the NZ vintage harvest season, wineries operate over strenuous schedules and it’s vital that all. Ensuring precise temperature control during harvest is crucial for preserving the quality of produce.
Our team was tasked with designing a temporary, large-capacity cooling system to maintain optimal conditions for harvested grapes. This innovative solution allowed for efficient preservation without the need for a permanent cooling system, ultimately saving costs during the rest of the year.
Mobile Substation keeps community online
The energy supplying this community was cut off due to a powerline going down. Power was quickly re-established when GRS was called on to gear up and get to site as fast as possible.
This unique package offers another layer of network security and resilience to lines companies across NZ. This generator powered substation steps up from 400V to 11kV and can be positioned at most points of connections.
Emergency Storm Response restores energy to coastal community
When a major coastal storm struck this community, the network feeder went down and GRS was called on to mobilise over 6MVA of power across a number of network points of connection. Some at 400V and some at 11kV.
SAIDI and SAIFI expenditure was managed as effectively as possible and more importantly, people had power flowing to their homes again meaning they were able to keep warm and dry.
Hydrogen Generator powers EV charger with zero tailpipe CO2
GRS attended the EEA conference in 2023 and demonstrated that it’s possible to create energy utilising hydrogen gas as the fuel source.
The hydrogen powered EODev GEH2 is revolutionising worksites, events, and emergency responses with its eco-friendly features. This cutting-edge generator produces only water and heat as by-products, eliminating noise, fumes, CO2, and fine particles. Equipped with the latest Toyota Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology, the GEH2 is scalable, efficient, and user-friendly. Its exceptional reliability and record lifespan make it the perfect tool for your journey to a carbon-neutral future.
Hot Water Boiler keeps Hotel guests warm through winter
Due to an unexpected plant failure, the GRS team was enlisted by a contractor to devise a solution ensuring continuous hot water supply at a hotel, sustaining optimal heating conditions.
Our lineup of diesel boilers, both scalable and portable, coupled with a full suite of ancillary gear, proves invaluable to contractors and essential facilities in upholding critical heating requirements.
Over 30 generators offering energy across Major Event
GRS faced a new challenge when the venue for a particular event was shifted for the first time in NZ's history. This change led to an evolution in the equipment scope on various levels.
To ensure the event's success, over 30 generators, thousands of metres of cable, and numerous distribution units were deployed. This comprehensive setup effectively covered the scattered power requirements across the entire venue. At GRS, we take pride in our contribution to the seamless execution of this event.
Temperature control enables production to keep on schedule
GRS successfully assisted the Producers of a popular TV series with their costume department overheating issue in a temporary warehouse. By installing a 200kW water chiller and AHU package that delivered approximately 8000L/sec of cool air, the team ensured the rigorous schedule stayed on track.
Seasonal Cooling improves working conditions
This seasonal chiller and air handler package is crucial for ensuring adequate cool air distribution in one of the main processing rooms at a critical site. By controlling the ambient temperature, staff members experience drastically improved working conditions, leading to higher productivity and enhanced work satisfaction levels. Thanks to this installation, the team can navigate the warmer months each year without enduring temperatures over the 30-degree range.
High Voltage underground power
As exploration and harvesting increases, so too does the need for power on site. GRS were engaged to supply a temporary package able to offer over 7.5MVA of power at 11kV, as required. Our proven experience on similar scale projects and ability to provide a reliable, safety conscious and cost-effective energy solution that delivers flexibility, performance and scalability is what drove them to move forward with GRS.
Expanding our offering beyond the shorelines of NZ
When the permanent gensets for this grid went down due to machine failure, GRS were called on to provide a scalable and portable temporary solution to peak lop the grid demand. This package offers up to 1.7MW of continuous capacity and allows the grid to continue to supply the end users with the necessary power requirements whilst repairs are being carried out on their owned units.
